His academic experience began in 1967 as an Instructor at the University of Oklahoma and includes the position of Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and founder of the Turbomachinery Laboratories and the Turbomachinery Symposium in 1972 and is currently a very successful symposium. He is the author of several books such as the Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook (Fourth Edition, Elsevier); Cogeneration & Combined Cycle Power Plants (Second Edition, ASME Press); and Centrifugal Compressors, A Basic Guide (PennWell Books). He is a contributor to several handbooks: his latest contributions are to the Perry’s Chemical Engineering Handbook Seventh and Eight Editions (McGraw Hill) in the areas of Transport and Storage of Fluids and Gas Turbines, he is presently working on the 9th Edition. He has contributed chapters for the ASME’s Energy and Power Generation Handbook and A Handbook on Combined Cycle Systems for Near-Zero Emission Power Generation. He is Chair of the Committee which just completed the writing of the ASME PTC 55 Gas Turbine Aircraft Engines, which was approved as an American National Standard by the ANSI Board of Standards Review on July 29th 2013. He is also a member of the ASME Ethics Review Board. Additionally, Dr. Boyce has taught over 150 short courses around the world attended by over 4500 students representing over 400 Corporations.
